All Hallows Eve

Oct 27 and 28 was a great weekend. I traveled to Daegu with some friends for a really great Halloween Weekend. Pictures are still being posted so I will have to do an update for them as they come.

In Korea they do not celebrate Halloween so it was interesting the costumes people came up with. Many ordered them from online while others went for what they knew and got creative. We got there midday on Saturday, Jackie Angelica and I, and once again it was an adventure to find our way. We got some pretty incorrect directions not only to the subway station but also to get downtown, so for those who are traveling to downtown Daegu: DAEGU STATION is closer to downtown and everything you need is right in that area. We ended up being on the wrong side of downtown and went to a police station to meet up with our friends and walked to a hotel that was not a love motel this time. However Jackie and I did share a room again. But this hotel was cheap and in the middle of everything. It was so much better this weekend.

I thought this fountain was interesting. The first is supposed to be Jackie drinking from the fountain, but I think that in our rush for a clear shot we had to sacrifice accuracy.

I have no idea what the pyramid really represents here, but we saw it when leaving the subway station and I thought I would take a picture.

After some good shopping and the location of a costume store to finish off our nightly apparel (or just to get me a costume in general) we went back to the hotel to get ready and for me to take a nap. The party started at nine at a place called Thunderbird Lounge (http://www.thunderbirdlounge.org/). Everyone was dressed pretty early so they went to dinner and a bar and Agelica and I met up with them later.

In this picture you have Girl (small angel), Art (superhero), Caitlin (school girl), Kali (Hermine from Harry Potter), Marni and Bren (Korean Couple), Jackie (Chung-Lee), and Jake (sumo)

Thunderbird is pretty small and there was no place to dance so we ended up going to a club called Frog that allows non-Koreans in for free and there were a lot of military people there, I had a really great time at this club. It was a hip hop club, and it was so funny to see everyone there with costumes on and the Koreans in regular dress confused about what's going on. I am pretty sure they had some idea, but the reactions and looks to certain costumes, like the guy in the bunny costume, or my Korean-American friends who had a bit more risque get ups which is totally against the native culture. Laughs and good time had by all.

Caitlin and Jackie being cute and sultry.

Okay, the focus of this picture in Marni and Bren. As you can see they are dressed just alike and happen to be making a heart with their arms. This is typical Korean Couple behavior and totally hilarious to all of us born in the West; however, many native Koreans just did not get the genius of this Halloween costume concept. Kudos to Marni and Bren!
Also in this picture is Dave Jones ( there are two Daves hence the last name), who is not in costume, and two random Korean chicks. Plus Cleopatra who's real name I don't know.

Jackie and I at Thunderbird

Bunny and Mime, I don't know these guys but these costumes in a Korean club was pretty hilarious. I'm surprised the bunny guy didn't pass out from the heat and all the people.

Angelica (angel) and I (everyone gave me a different costume name so we'll just say I was a Dark Cat Angel-atrix)

Sunday was pretty mild. We went to a burger place that serves a pretty mean chili cheese fry according to my friends, and the burgers are great as well. I had a cheese burger, cheese fries, and vanilla shake. I was never happier with the food in Korea than this time.

Since we were all pretty tired we all just parted ways pretty early and headed back to our respective cities. While trying to switch our tickets to an earlier time we saw Caitlin in line and hung out in the station for a little bit. Because I had been in heels all day and night my back was hurting and I bent down and an elderly Korean came past looking at me like I was nuts, but when we explained to her she started rubbing my back. It was nice but weird. At the end of it all we could do was laugh because by this time the whole station was looking at us. Oh well, Halloween is the time when the strange come out to play, or in my case, give back rubs.
